The Challenges of Working with the Aged

發布時間 : 2021.10.18
The aged care industry is one of the fastest growing industries in Australia and it's not hard to see why. With an ageing population, there needs to be a way for people to receive proper care when they can no longer live on their own or with family members. For many aged care nurses, this job provides them with the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life while also making themselves happy and fulfilled at work and home. However, working with the aged comes with its own challenges which we will discuss here...

How to know if you are stressed

Although totally avoiding stress is virtually impossible, there are some things that you can do to reduce the impact of stress on your life.
- Keep a sleep diary, monitoring how long and well you sleep will help determine which factors may be causing or worsening your insomnia
- Try exercise as it has been proven time and again to improve mental health by releasing endorphins into the body
- Taking time out of your day to meditate will help you relax and focus on the here and now
- Be aware of what triggers are causing stress for you, whether it be relationship issues or work related problems, try not to carry these things around with you all day as this can make life feel very heavy.

Stress management techniques

- Reflective activities such as writing about your experiences and feelings to discover what you need in order to feel better
- Try the 'five whys' technique where you reflect on a specific situation and ask yourself why it is making you feel stressed. Continue asking why until getting to the root of the problem or until no further answers can be found
- Use positive affirmations to tell yourself how awesome you are
- Visualising stress as a colour can help reduce its intensity when it occurs
How nursing affects family life
It's never easy having two roles in your life, whether that be being both mum and dad or working full time. However for aged care nurses who also have families at home, it's not always easy to manage the two. Often when they get home from work there is still more that needs to be done for their family and if this isn't managed properly then stress levels can quickly rise. Having a strong support network at home or outside of nursing will help provide relief from these responsibilities so you have time just for yourself.
Working with the aged can be very rewarding and enjoyable but it can also take its toll on the health of nurses. As well as making sure that residents are eating properly, taking their medication, exercising, and getting a good night's sleep, aged care nurses also have to deal with emotional issues such as resident mood swings, deterioration in a resident's health, and eventually their death. With all of this responsibility, trying to balance a work/home life isn't easy and as a result it's hardly surprising that stress is commonly experienced amongst nurses. So, we have designed Aged Care Nursing Assignment Help to deal with your assignments and let you focus on your goals.
